Broadland St Benedict’s Board

michael-neweyMichael Newey DSc (Hon) BSc FRICS FCIH FRSA, Chair

Michael has been Broadland Housing Group’s Chief Executive since May 2003, and has worked in the affordable housing sector since 1997, having previously worked for both Flagship Housing Group and Anglia Housing Group. Established in 1963, Broadland Housing Group now owns and manages 5,000 homes, and includes a residential developer, Broadland St Benedict’s, which Michael chairs. The Group also includes Broadland Repairs, a direct labour organisation, and Broadland Meridian, a support charity.

In 2013 / 2014 Michael was the Global President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, while in July 2015, he was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Science by the University of Portsmouth in recognition of his contribution to housing, real estate and surveying education.

Michael is currently Chair of the ESRC Development Group. In addition, he is also a Visiting Fellow, Chair of the Real Estate and Land Management Advisory Board at the Royal Agricultural University, and Chair of the Surveying Professional Advisory Board at Portsmouth University.
Finally, he is also a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a Member of the Australasian Housing Institute.

Martin is the Managing Director of a small local property development company, whilst also carrying out development and project management roles for a number of regional construction companies.

Brought up in Brandon and living in Weeting with his partner and two young daughters, Martin is a professional member of both the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and the Chartered Institute of Building.

In terms of his professional experience, Martin has worked with a number of leading construction companies over the last twenty years, during which time he worked on a variety of projects which includes infrastructure, offices, schools, medical facilities and housing.

Martin is a member of the Group Audit Committee.

Helen Skoyles is a qualified housing professional and a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIHCM).   Helen has incredible knowledge of the affordable housing sector, having worked in various Local Authority and Housing Associations in the South East region, including the Flagship Housing Group. She was also previously an Independent Board Member at Wherry Housing Association.

Helen works part-time in the finance department at a large Norwich High School and is also a member of Fairhaven Primary School PTA, and a valued member of the Broadland St Benedict’s Board.

Sean has been Chief Executive of RICS since September 2010. Operating out of 30 offices around the world, RICS is the world’s largest professional body covering land, property, construction and infrastructure, with over 100,000 people holding its professional qualifications.

Prior to becoming Chief Executive, Sean was Chief Operating Officer of RICS, leading a sustained programme of change which resulted in the organisation becoming financially stable, global in its operational reach, and capable of attracting future investment.

Sean holds a main board appointment with the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing, a business leader of the Marketing Society, a Chartered Insurer, and a Diploma holder of the Institute of Directors. Finally, he was recently awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering by Heriot Watt University “in recognition of his leadership and exceptional and influential contribution to the advancement of surveying standards internationally”.
