Group Executive Team

michael-neweyMichael Newey D.Sc(Hon) BSc FRICS FCIH MAHI, Group Chief Executive

Michael has been the Group Chief Executive since May 2003. He is also ex-officio member of the Board and Chair of Broadland St Benedicts Limited.

Michael has worked in the affordable housing sector since 1997, having previously worked for Flagship Housing Group and Anglia Housing Group.  Prior to 1997 Michael worked as a Chartered Surveyor in private practice in London, working for Richard Ellis and Savills.

Michael is the Chairman of the Theatre Royal (Norwich) Trust, an educational charity operating the 1300 seat art deco theatre in the city centre. He is a member of the UK Regeneration Investment Organisation Advisory Board, part of the UKTI reporting to the Department of Business Innovation and Skills.  He is also a Visiting Fellow at the Royal Agricultural University, focussing on affordable housing, as well as being the Chair of the Real Estate and Land Management Advisory Board.

In 2013/2014 Michael was the Global President of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the leading professional body for those working in land, property and the built environment around the world. He was the Chair of the RIC’s Independent Housing Commission in 2013  More Good Homes and a Better United Kingdom- RICS Housing Commission Recommendations

Michael, a graduate in Urban Land Administration from Portsmouth Polytechnic, is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors; a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Housing and is also a Member of the Australasian Housing institute. In July 2015 Michael was presented with an Honorary Doctor of Science by the University of Portsmouth in recognition of contribution to housing, real estate and surveying education.

andrew-savage  Andrew Savage MSc MRICS, Executive Director

Andrew started his career within property and development in 1985 and has a combined experience in residential/ commercial property sales and development spanning 20 years.

In 2003 Andrew joined the Association with the position of Head of New Business which included looking at new ways to develop affordable housing. In early 2005 he took on the responsibility of the full development function within Broadland.

In July 2005 he was appointed Assistant Director (New Business and Asset Management) combining the development and estates functions of the Association overseeing the delivery of the new developments’ programme and also to ensure the delivery of the Association’s day-to-day repair service and planned programme of major repairs. In November 2006 he was appointed Director of Development to continue the business growth and delivery of new development, asset management and bring facilities management and services into the Directorate.

July 2009 has seen Andrew appointed to the new Group Executive Team, as Executive Director of Business Growth, the Directorate grows to include the Business Growth function for Broadland Meridian in the training and employment sector.

ivan-johnsonIvan Johnson FCIH, Executive Frontline Director

Ivan has spent 40 years working in the Social Housing Sector within East Anglia.

He began his career working with Breckland District Council at its Area Office in Thetford.  Over the next 19 years he gained a wide range of experience before being promoted to Deputy Chief Housing Officer.

In 1991, he was seconded to assist with the process of transferring the Authorities housing stock to a new Housing Association – Peddars Way, later to become part of the Flagship Housing Group, where he held a number of senior posts including Director of Housing.

Prior to joining Broadland Housing Group in January 2010, he spent 12 months in consultancy.

As Executive Frontline Director with Broadland Housing Ivan is responsible for the majority of front line services which include Housing Management, Rental Income Recovery, Customer Services, Tenant Participation, Supported Housing and Services for the Elderly. In addition Ivan is also responsible for Broadland Meridian which includes Tenancy Support Service and Dibden Road. Dibden Road is a specialist support scheme for single males.

louise-archerLouise Archer BSc FRICS, Executive Property Director

Louise has been at Broadland Housing Group since November 2007 and was appointed her role as Executive Property Director in July 2011.

Louise started her career working within the Housing and Architectural Services Department of Great Yarmouth Borough Council. During this time she gained a BSc in Quantity Surveying from Anglia Ruskin University. From then Louise spent time gaining experience with a building contractor, working for RG Carter Building and then spent 7 years working as a Senior Project Surveyor at Davis Langdon.

Louise achieved Chartered Quantity Surveyor Status from the RICS and then joined Broadland Housing Group in 2007. Louise’s role was initially Head of Programme Delivery within the Business Growth Directorate, then Deputy Director. In July 2011 she then became Executive Property Director, where she is responsible for the repairs service, post contract delivery of the new development programme and for ensuring our homes meet the decent homes standard plus the management of facilities and services within the Property Directorate.

Louise was elected as Chair of the RICS East of England Regional Board in September 2013. She is a RICS Associate Assessor for Quantity Surveying and Construction, whereby she reviews and assesses RICS Associate membership submissions and provides feedback for referred candidates.

julian-fosterJulian Foster, MA (Hons), ACA, FCT, Executive Finance Director

Julian has worked in four different growing housing association groups at finance director level over the last 20 years after previously working in investment banking.

He is an experienced finance and development director and has experience of leading growth initiatives and other functions including ICT, funding and business development.

During his career he has raised over £550 million of new finance for three different housing providers and has lead on a number of funding innovations including first group borrowing facility, earliest stock transfer to refinance after transfer and first ESG bond in the social housing sector in 2014.

He was been a member of the NHF Financial Policy Advisory Group from 2010-2015 alongside several of the finance directors of the largest and most creative housing associations in the sector.

Julian will be overseeing the finance function for the group including funding, procurement, risk and business performance.
