Older Persons Housing

In the past, many older people – or people with disabilities – who were no longer able to reside at home would simply have been removed from their homes and placed into either residential care or a nursing home environment.

But of course what almost everyone wants more than anything else, regardless of their age or situation type, is to remain in their own home where they feel safe, secure, and happiest.

And that’s exactly what the housing with care initiative is designed to do.

Housing with care offers a fully supportive environment for older people or people with disabilities, simply by allowing them to continue living a completely independent life within their own self contained flat, whilst still having round-the-clock access to an on-site team of care professionals and a range of exceptional communal services:

  • Communal garden spaces
  • On-site laundry facilities
  • Communal dining and seating areas to ensure that everyone living within the housing with care environment has ample opportunity to socialise and partake in fun activities with others living within the community
  • Subsidised meals so that everyone can avail of healthy food options freshly prepared
  • on-site
  • Assisted bathing and toilet facilities

Does Broadland Housing Association offer housing with care schemes?

Yes, absolutely! We currently offer the housing with care schemes available in Norwich, Kings Lynn, Downham Market, Cromer, Holt, Wymondham and Great Yarmouth.

How can I apply?

To apply for a housing with care scheme, you will first need to register with your local council, as follows:

How do I know if I am eligible? The housing with care scheme is subject to a care and housing assessment from social services and your local housing department.

However, as a guide, in order to be eligible you must have both a housing need, as well as a care and support need, defined as follows:

A housing need simply means that your current home is no longer suitable for you and can no longer meet your requirements.

A care and support need means you can no longer live completely independently, and need help with personal care in one or more of the following areas:

  • Getting up and going to bed
  • Assistance with bathing, showering, and the use of toilet facilities
  • Preparing and cooking meals
  • Assistance with medication
